Cold Feet fans couldn’t hold back the tears as Pete’s depression came to light.

Actor John Thomson, who plays Pete, had warned that his character would go through some tough times in the rebooted series, and those times seem to have arrived.

In the latest instalment, while the rest of the gang juggled their busy lives, romances and careers, Pete’s misery started to become evident.

Then Adam (James Nesbitt) twigged that he was depressed, before viewers saw Pete sitting sobbing in a dark room.

And his tears triggered those fans on Twitter, who have been posting messages saying they are “heartbroken” for poor Pete.

Oh god, Pete is making me cry #ColdFeet

A sweet, sad, unlucky everyman. I guess we see a bit of Pete in all of us. I'm not sure I'd have put up with his mates either #ColdFeet

Pete's depression being portrayed so well on #ColdFeet tonight. And it's still managing to keep the laughs going elsewhere. Great stuff!
