There were actually four other goals in the game, but it’s fair to say there’s one goal everyone is talking about from Liverpool’s game against Leicester.

Lucas Leiva and Simon Mignolet were involved in perhaps the goal of the match (Nigel French/PA)

With the match at 2-0 Liverpool looked dominant at a newly revamped Anfield and Leicester were floundering. However, in the 38th minute a loose ball from Lucas Leiva conceded possession to Jamie Vardy free in the penalty area – who promptly scored.

Liverpool were terrific in the first half, but Leicester are still in it thanks to a little Lucas aid 😬

Sensational assist from Lucas Leiva, absolutely better than Ozil #LIVLEI #LFC

— 'Stu (@8BStu) September 10, 2016

Lucas has come under scrutiny in the past, particularly when playing as a centre back as he was today, something Liverpool fans noted before the game.

Trying not to think about Lucas and Milner in our defence 🤔

Perhaps predictably in the minds of Liverpool fans their worries appeared to be for good reason, and Lucas got some stick for his mistake.

Retweet if you're a better defender than Lucas 😂😂😂

When life gives you Lucas, make Perez not Leiva

— F. (@Fattcheeked) September 10, 2016

Liverpool fans weren’t happy.

If we don't win this I'm not forgiving Lucas

— ㅤㅤ (@CoutinhoFlair) September 10, 2016

We were outstanding until that Lucas mistake. Completely changed the momentum. Still gobsmacked by that. Most ridiculous goal to concede.

Whatever Sakho has done wrong it cannot have been as bad as that back pass by Lucas #LFC

Some thought Klopp wouldn’t been happy either.

Preview of Lucas getting singled out in the half-time team talk… #LIVLEI pic.twitter.com/xKGneip96o

Others thought Lucas deserves a break though.

To be fair to Lucas, horrible brainfart aside I thought he did very well

Lucas committed one error but:
Passes – 1st
Accuracy – 2nd
Touches – 1st
Interceptions – 1st
Tackles – 2nd
Well done @LucasLeiva87

Even suggesting he had Vardy in his pocket…

A closer look reveals Lucas has got everything under control Reds!!!!! 👌🏻🔴🔴🔴 pic.twitter.com/VpCzmwzg8n

Despite the bizarre mishap Liverpool stormed to victory, making it 4-1 with Roberto Firmino’s second goal in the 89th minute.

New Liverpool man Mane skipped past Kasper Schmeichel before playing in Firmino for his side’s final goal (Nigel French/PA)

The brilliant attacking display saw new signing Sadio Mane on the scoresheet and England’s Adam Lallana score with a brilliant top-corner finish.

Premier League Champions Leicester have been left with lots to ponder, particularly how much they will miss N’Golo Kante this season – after selling him to Chelsea.

Now people starting to 👀 how huge a player #Kante was for us!! Protected a good but not great back 4 so well last season #LCFC

— Matt Piper (@_mattpiper) September 10, 2016

You Kante sell your engine and expect to go anywhere, except down hill!! @GaryLineker 😉 #LCFC #LFCLEI

— Frankie Benjamin (@frankieswords) September 10, 2016

Last season Vardy, Mahrez, Morgan, Schmeichel, Drinkwater (& others) all brilliant but Kante is such a HUGE miss #Security #LCFC

— Dan Walker (@mrdanwalker) September 10, 2016

Fans of the club shouldn’t be too disheartened though – after all, they’re playing in the Champion’s League next week.

I think @LCFC will just have to settle for winning the @ChampionsLeague this season.
