It was 33 seconds, to be precise. A floated ball from Marcus Alonso at left-back went straight over Chris Smalling and Daley Blind, into the feet of an on-rushing Pedro, and past David de Gea who’d been stuck in no man’s land.

Chelsea’s official Twitter account puts it best.

And we're off – COME ON CHELSEA! #CHEMUN

My word! 33 seconds was all it took! Alonso lofted the ball forward, Pedro nipped in, took it around De Gea and slotted home! 1-0! #CHEMUN

Manchester United’s account was a bit less descriptive.

The internet had a party, although definitely not the kind Jose Mourinho had been hoping for on his return to Stamford Bridge.

Jose Mourinho has just been spotted looking for his key so he can get the bus out of it's parking space. #CHEMUN

Jose Mourinho's game plan in the bin after 30 seconds. #CHEMUN

The goal was the fastest in the Premier League so far this season and with United having fielded the same team as they had against Liverpool, the only change being Jesse Lingard for Ashley Young, thoughts were that the plan was the same – stop Chelsea playing.

That backfired, and very quickly.
