Calvin Harris has spoken about about the hell that “broke loose” following his very high-profile break up from Taylor Swift last year.
The Scottish DJ is usually rather quiet about his personal life, but has now addressed his celebrity status and the split from the singer that made headlines around the world.
And, somewhat tellingly, his words came just hours after news broke of his ex-girlfriend’s reported split from actor Tom Hiddleston while at the GQ Men of the Year Awards.
Speaking to GQ magazine, he said: “It’s very difficult when something I consider so personal plays out very publicly.
“The aftermath of the relationship was way more heavily publicised than the relationship itself. When we were together, we were very careful for it not to be a media circus. She respected my feelings in that sense. I’m not good at being a celebrity.”
He added, referencing his recent Twitter takedown of his ex over a song of his that she secretly wrote: “But when it ended, all hell broke loose. Now I see that Twitter thing as a result of me succumbing to pressure. It took me a minute to realise that none of that matters. I’m a positive guy.
“For both of us it was the wrong situation. It clearly wasn’t right, so it ended, but all of the stuff that happened afterwards…”
Calvin and Taylor dated for 15 months until they parted ways in June this year. The end of their relationship was as high-profile as a split could be, not least because she then quickly begun dating actor Tom.
What ensued was three months of the new couple lauding their romance around, being pictured together frequently and meeting each others’ parents in their respective home countries. Tom was even pictured wearing an ‘I heart TS’ vest during one getaway.
Taylor and Tom’s union has now come to an end, with reports claiming that the singer is keen to keep her personal life private, against his wishes to take her to the Emmy Awards.
