Veteran American golfer Jim Furyk fired the lowest score in PGA Tour history Sunday, shooting a 58 in the final round of the Travelers Championship in Cromwell, Connecticut.

The 46-year-old former US Open winner had held the record of 59 along with five others, until going one better Sunday.

After the round, Furyk said "There are a lot of rounds by a lot of great players ahead of me that have never reached 58. So to hold it on the PGA Tour is phenomenal."

Despite the great final round, he finished in a tie for 5th place for the four-round tournament, three shots behind winner Russell Knox of Scotland on the par 70 course.
