We’ve all looked at that sign in the lift, you know the one about maximum weight?

But do you take much notice? These seven Sale Sharks rugby players seemingly did not.

Together they exceeded the weight limit in the lift by more than 120kg, with a combined weight of over 750kg, and were stuck for an hour before firefighters managed to release them.

The players soon found themselves asking the firefighters for sandwiches and water, and some were rather in need of the toilet by the time they got out. One of the players, Johnny Leota, even wrote “tell my wife I love her” on the lift’s mirror.

But there was a happy ending to it all for the Sharks, as they managed to make their Aviva Premiership game against Bath – and win it 30-3.
