It came as no surprise that Arsenal took all three points at home to Bulgarian side Ludogorets Razgrad, but the source of half the Gunners’ goals might well have shocked a few.

The north London side were on a run of six wins, and if Mesut Ozil’s Twitter account was to be believed, he was in no mood to see it come to an end.

With full power into @ChampionsLeague matchday 3! 🔥👍😉 #AFCvLUD #YaGunnersYa #FirstNeverFollows #ACE16 pic.twitter.com/QrOo3Q9VfV

The night began well for Mesut, who broke his run of games without an assist by helping Theo Walcott continue his hot streak.

One that curled high into the net, from I think over 20yards. I genuinely can't ever remember Walcott scoring a goal like that.

1 – Mesut Ozil's assist for Theo Walcott has ended a run of nine Arsenal games without one for the German. Duck.

That goal was Arsenal’s second, and effectively put the game to bed. Remember that Ozil tweet, though? The assist-king promised full power, and full power is what Ludogorets got.

After Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain finished the game off as a contest with a third goal shortly after the half-time break, Mesut did the rest.

GOAL! Ozil makes it 4-0 to Arsenal!

Another home Champions League goal for the World Cup winner.

And then a rare second for Arsenal’s record signing, making it 5-0 and quite the night for the Gunners.

Think I'm right that the last time Ozil scored twice in a game for Arsenal was almost exactly three years ago against Norwich.

MESUT OZIL IS ON 🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥

— AllArsenal.com (@AllArsenalnews) October 19, 2016

But few would have predicted the man best-known for providing the goals, would nick three for himself.

GOAL!
Eins-Zwei-Drei for Mesut Ozil, who bags his hat-trick to make it Arsenal 6-0 Ludogorets!

Mesut Ozil's FIRST EVER professional hattrick

— Daily Cannon (@DailyCannon) October 19, 2016

Ozil joins a rather mixed list of Arsenal players with a Champions League hat-trick to their name.

5 – Mesut Ozil is the fifth Arsenal player to score a Champions League hat-trick (Henry, Bendtner, Welbeck, Giroud). Treble.

Those contract talks just got a little more expensive, Arsene.

And while Arsenal’s night couldn’t have gone much better…

FT 6-0 #afc Ozil's first hat-trick of his career and Arsenal's seventh consecutive win. Giant leap towards last 16 too given PSG win.

…there’s nothing like a Lionel Messi comparison to put things in perspective.

Mesut Ozil now only 36 hat-tricks short of Messi's record for Barcelona
