Barbra Streisand has revealed she phoned Apple chief Tim Cook when she noticed the tech company’s virtual assistant Siri was pronouncing her name wrong.
The singer and actress told US news podcast Weekend Edition that she made the call after hearing the voice-based assistant pronounce the second syllable of her name incorrectly.
“I called the head of Apple, Tim Cook, and he delightfully agreed to have Siri change the pronunciation of my name, finally,” she said.
The US singer, who won an Oscar for her role in 1968′s Funny Girl, added that the second syllable should be pronounced with “a soft S, like sand on the beach.”
Apple is due to launch iOS 10 later next month, which will contain updates for Siri – one of which could now be an amended name for Streisand.
“Let’s see if that happens, because I will be thrilled,” she said.
As well as iOS 10, Apple is due to reveal the new iPhone – most likely the iPhone 7 – in September, with speculation building around the possible date for the event, which is expected to be in the first half of the month, with the phone going on sale shortly afterwards.
