World champion boxer Tyson Fury has tested positive for cocaine.
VADA, the Voluntary Anti-Doping Association, found benzoylecgonine in the heavyweight’s “A” urine sample.
Benzoylecgonine is a metabolite of cocaine – indicating Fury took the substance. Fury can request analysis of his “B” urine sample at his own expense.
Fury’s camp have not made a statement about the findings, which were first reported by US sports network ESPN.
Fury was due to fight Wladimir Klitschko, the man he defeated to earn his WBA and WBO titles in 2015, on October 29 in Manchester but the fight was abandoned by Fury, with his management citing medical reasons. His trainer and uncle Peter Fury said the boxer was “seeking help” after the postponement.
The fight had already been postponed once due to Fury suffering an ankle injury.
The testing from VADA had been part of the routine agreed by Klitschko and Fury before their now suspended fight.
