Sky Sports’ Super Sundays have become a bit of a running joke in the world of football.

Saturday is the recognised football day in Britain, with the lion’s share of matches taking place on the first day of the weekend from lunchtime until dinner.

Meanwhile, Sunday usually hosts no more than a couple of fixtures, and although occasionally the stars align and a few big games land on the seventh day of the week, this Sunday was not one of those days.

Is today the least Super Sunday of all time?

Not exactly glamour ties, right? But it’s football, and while on the surface the games didn’t look all that intriguing, there was still a possibility of great drama, wasn’t there?

Well the first game didn’t exactly pan out that way, as Opta explained.

114 – Watford attempted just 114 passes in the first half against Middlesbrough, their lowest total for the season so far. Subdued.

4 – Watford’s four shots (inc. blocks) against Middlesbrough was the fewest by a winning team in a PL away game this season. Grab.

Even Watford sounded relieved when the final whistle went: “It’s over!”

Super Sunday was beginning to seem suspiciously un-super…

45,881 – Number of people threatening to sue Sky Sports for calling today "Super Sunday". Contractual.

Perhaps some decent action in the Southampton/Burnley fixture would salvage the day?

Watching super Sunday yawning. Basically waiting for NFL redzone to start. 💤💤

I don't know about you but I've really enjoyed today's Super Sunday. What an enthralling couple of games.

It did not look good after 45 minutes.

And then the second half came alive – but was it ‘super’?

No, apparently not.

Middlesbrough-Watford. Southampton-Burnley. Less Super Sunday more Dismal Dimanche.

“Dismal Dimanche.” Nice.
