Unfortunate Tottenham defender Kevin Wimmer marked his first Premier League start of the campaign with an own goal in Sunday’s 1-1 draw with rivals Arsenal.

But despite putting the ball in the wrong net, the Austrian earned plaudits from Twitter users for the quality of his 42nd-minute header.

Naturally, many of those praising Wimmer’s finish were Arsenal fans…

Get in there my son. Marvellous own goal by Wimmer. One nil to the @Arsenal v that other team in North London. #COYG

Wimmer did not let his first-half own goal affect him, however, and impressed many Spurs fans with his overall performance.

Huge credit to Kevin Wimmer could've easily buried his head after "OG" but was central to brilliant 2nd half defensive display. #COYS#THFC

Other than the early card & OG, thought Wimmer was great. Vertonghen putting in another class performance 👏🏻 God I've missed this man #COYS pic.twitter.com/nlFUNOArNr
