Usually it is the women who are queens of the red carpet, while men turn up looking dull in boring suits and tuxedos. A colourful bow tie or funky shirt is about as exciting as it gets.

But the GQ Men of the Year Awards are the exception. Like a light bulb in the darkness attracting only the most stylish mosquitoes, the GQ red carpet draws in the most sharply dressed and the most fashion-forward of the male sex.
