It looks likely that Barbra Streisand will have to give up the top spot in the Official Album Chart after just one week, as Jamie T and Ward Thomas are fighting it out for number one.

Indie rock star Jamie T and modern British country duo Ward Thomas both have an early lead in the mid-weeks with their records Trick and Cartwheels respectively.

Ward Thomas, 22-year-old twin sisters Catherine and Lizzy Ward Thomas, are currently in the lead with their newly released second album – but they are just 750 combined sales ahead of Jamie T.

It would be the double act’s first number-one album, after their debut From Where We Stand peaked at 41 in 2014.

The coup would also see them become the first British country music act to top the UK charts.

If Jamie T succeeds, however, it would be his first chart-topper.

The 30-year-old singer-songwriter’s previous three records have made it into the Top 10, with his highest chart position being number two for his 2009 effort Kings & Queens.

Last week’s number one, Barbra’s Encore: Movie Partners Sing Broadway, is currently sitting in third place.

The top five is completed by two new entries: Wretch 32′s Growing Over Life at number four and Foreverland, The Divine Comedy’s 11th studio album, at five.

Over in the Official Singles Chart, The Chainsmokers and Halsey’s hit Closer is looking likely to retain its number-one spot for a second consecutive week.

The US duo’s collaboration with the singer has 11,000 combined sales ahead of the chart’s number two, DJ Snake and Justin Bieber’s Let Me Love You.

Previous number one Cold Water, by Major Lazer, remains in number three, while Calum Scott’s Dancing On My Own remains at number four, and Twenty One Pilots’ Heathens is sticking fast at number five.
