Fans were thrilled when Leonard and Penny tied the knot in The Big Bang Theory last season, but of course there was some upset over their choice to have a shotgun wedding instead of a big, fancy affair.

But now it has been revealed that the series 10 opener for the hit US sitcom – which airs very, very soon – will see the long-term couple get married in a proper ceremony in front of family and friends.

A couple of pictures from the episode have been revealed, showing Kaley Cuoco as Penny looking divine in a mid-length wedding dress, and Johnny Galecki’s Leonard Hofstadter sharp as ever in a suit.

The official Big Bang Theory Instagram teased the snap, writing: “It’s a family affair as The #BigBangTheory’s Leonard and Penny tie the knot…again!”

Another exciting thing? We may finally get to learn what Penny’s second name is, something that has been kept a huge mystery over the show’s nine-year run.

Those who have seen the show will know that we haven’t met her mother yet, and she’ll be played by actress Katey Segal – the very same person who played Kaley’s on-screen mum in sitcom 8 Simple Rules.

Returning for the 10th series are show favourites Jim Parsons as Sheldon Cooper, Simon Helberg as Howard Wolowitz, Kunal Nayyar as Rajesh Koothrappali, Melissa Rauch as Bernadette Rostenkowski-Wolowitz, Mayim Bialik as Amy Farrah Fowler and Kevin Sussman as Stuart Bloom.

The episode is called The Conjugal Conjecture and airs in the US on September 19. It will be broadcast on E4 in the UK at a later date.

Meanwhile, Kaley has said that the show’s future is “a very expensive question”, as it is as yet unknown if it will continue after the 10th series.

During an appearance on Jimmy Kimmel Live on Monday, the actress said that the making of another series would depend on money.

She said: “It’s a very expensive question for a lot of people.”
