Phillip Schofield will interview the Duke of Edinburgh for a new ITV documentary about the royal’s charitable work.
Philip will speak to TV’s Phillip for the “landmark royal documentary”.
The programme – in which the presenter also talks to the Earl and Countess of Wessex about their involvement – will celebrate 60 years of The Duke of Edinburgh’s Award, which helps young people.
The This Morning presenter said: “I am hugely excited to be working with The Duke of Edinburgh’s Award as it celebrates its 60th anniversary.
“It’s a unique opportunity to meet Prince Philip, the charity’s founder, and to see first-hand the amazing work that the DofE does with young people all over the world.”
Speaking on This Morning, the TV host said that he’d done his own “diamond challenge” – involving a plane – for the documentary.
The award is marking its 60th anniversary with a Diamond Challenge, which is open to applicants of all ages to embark on a “personal challenge” to raise money for the charity.
Phillip revealed: “The first time I met the Duke at a Duke of Edinburgh Awards ceremony, he said to me ‘Did you do your DOE award?’ and I said ‘It wasn’t at our school’ and he said ‘then why the bloody hell are you here then?’ I said ‘my wife did her gold’ and he replied ‘well she should be here then!’… He doesn’t suffer fools!”
The documentary, with the working title When Phillip Met Prince Philip: 60 Years Of The Duke Of Edinburgh’s Award, is being produced by Spun Gold TV, which made When Ant And Dec Met The Prince: 40 Years Of The Prince’s Trust.
