US swimmer Katie Ledecky has taken the Rio Games by storm.

But, as this cute family snap shows, just 10 years ago she was a 9-year-old girl getting an autograph from another swimming hero – none other than Michael Phelps himself.

Aww, look how excited she seems to be about meeting him… if only she’d known then that a decade later, they’d both be completely owning the pool at the Olympics.

ICYMI, Ledecky has racked up two gold medals in Rio, and also smashed her own world record in the 400 metres freestyle by nearly two seconds. And, of course, Phelps has been adding more gold medals to his collection – which now totals a massive 21.

Interestingly, both athletes are from the Maryland-Washington, D.C., region. Obvs the place to be if you want to become an Olympic swimming champion…
