Derby County might be languishing in the relegation zone of the Championship, but their half-time entertainment on Saturday was Champions League quality.

Rams fans have had precious little entertainment this season and they hadn’t seen their side score a single goal at home when half-time rolled around against Blackburn on Saturday.

Cue this to lift the mood.

It’s fair to say the sight of seeing a mascot fish devour a goalkeeping coach, and then spit him out half-naked, is not textbook half-time fare.

It was the work of an American entertainment group known as the ZOOperstars!, who describe themselves as “the most trusted name in sports entertainment”, and who have been getting headlines for this sort of stuff across the pond.

The routine at the IPro Stadium is their most famous “Eat It” display, which the company boasts has been viewed more than 10 million times online.

The mascot fish, nicknamed “Mackerel Jordan” is among a group of inflatable characters, inspired by sporting identities including Wayne Kangarooney, Lion Messi, Kevin Duranteater and Sealrena Williams.
