That’s right. Not only was there a positive from England’s goalless draw against Slovenia – it’s beleaguered goalkeeper Joe Hart who provided it.

Hart has had a torrid few months. Dropped by Manchester City, he had a shaky debut for Torino where he is on loan, and some had started to question his position as England’s number one. Well, not after that save.

Hart’s brilliant save kept a clean sheet for England – and everyone on Twitter went mental for it.

That is an absolute worldie from Hart. Not sure how much he knows about the second hand but … Wow. #SLOENG

Hart was man-of the match pulling off a series of brilliant stops, and his performance earned England a point in their World Cup qualifying group, where they are now two clear at the top.

The 29-year-old’s sensational evening of left some pondering what else he could save…

Joe Hart could have saved Harambe. #SLOENG

Joe Hart could save the Republican Party

Meanwhile Southampton legend Matt le Tissier couldn’t help but poke fun at Hart’s parent club. While former England cricketer Alec Stewart alluded to City manager Pep Guardiola’s apparent desire for a goalkeeper who is good with his feet.

Think man city should sign this hart fella hes not bad 😃

— Matt Le Tissier (@mattletiss7) October 11, 2016

Joe Hart showing why the ability of a goalkeeper to be able to use his hands and not just his feet is rather important! #greatsaves

Finally comedian Omid Djalili thinks the save was down to his socks, obviously.

This blue sock thing not working for me AT ALL. 2nd half we need RED socks & WHITE shorts. We look awful. Zhoozh it up boys#SLOENG

— Omid Djalili (@omid9) October 11, 2016

See? Joe Hart refusing to wear the blue socks and he pulls off incredible double save #SLOENG
