Birds Of A Feather star Lesley Joseph has said the fan mail she receives is not as “spicy” as it used to be – thanks to her age.

The actress, 70, is the oldest celebrity to take to the dancefloor on BBC One’s Strictly Come Dancing this year.

Lesley, best known for playing maneater Dorien Green in ITV’s popular sitcom, added she thinks “70 is the new 40″.

She told Sunday People: “My fan mail used to be much spicier. It’s not now, the older I get.

“I don’t think I look 70. I don’t think I behave like 70 either. I’m still here and fighting the good fight.”

Her partner for the new series of Strictly is Anton Du Beke, who is 20 years her junior.

“Would I have liked a younger guy? Well, that’s a one-trick pony – that’s Dorien. One week of that and you’d think, ‘I’ve seen that now’”, she said.

“I want there to be more to it than that. And Anton is younger than me – let’s face it, everyone is younger than me.”

She heaped praise on Anton, who many believe is the frontrunner to step into head judge Len Goodman’s shoes when he leaves the show at the end of the year.

She said: “He (Anton) is a Strictly legend and he is wonderful at ballroom – and has the patience to teach me.”
