When Swansea travelled to the Britannia Stadium for their Premier League fixture against Swansea, they did so in the knowledge that two of their former stars, Joe Allen and Wilfried Bony, would be competing against them.

Such narratives often produce drama, and so it was that on the night of Halloween, Swansea’s nightmare began.

Goal – BONY
Assist – ALLEN

It had to be, didn't it? Stoke corner not properly cleared, Allen with what looked like a shot, Bony from close range. https://t.co/Jf91PH9bTP

It was certainly not ideal for Bob Bradley’s side.

Allen to Bony. The Swansea old boys take 3 minutes to remind their former employers of their talents

The situation was not well received by Swansea fans…

having Allen and Bony playing against us is the worst thing ever

— Charlotte Carroll (@charlcarrollx) October 31, 2016

…who thought the whole thing was entirely predictable.

A Joe Allen assist for a Wilfried Bony goal was the most utterly predictable thing anyone could ever have imagined.

— Paul Thomas (@NeathJack1) October 31, 2016

Although it was current Swansea players who were probably to blame.

Well how inevitable is that. Allen to Bony. Ki and Fer both hugely guilty of leaving men. 1-0

— Chris Wathan (@ChrisWathan) October 31, 2016

Then the same thing happened again in the second half. Eerie.

72: GOAL! Another ex Swansea double act.
Fantastic work from Joe Allen who has been great tonight, finished by Bony. 3-1 Stoke. Game over

GOAL Stoke 3-1 Swansea (73 mins). Ex-Swans Joe Allen and Wilfried Bony combine again to extend the hosts' lead #STKSWA

— Premier League (@premierleague) October 31, 2016

And with it being Halloween, there was plenty of opportunity for word play.

Joe Allen and Wilfried Bony combine to put Stoke City 1-0 up against Swansea. That's not the treat Swansea fans wanted on Halloween.

Allen to Bony… goal.

Spooky stuff for the Swans.
