Simon Cowell has a new show idea for the BBC to replace the Great British Bake Off

Simon Cowell has offered to come to the BBC’s rescue with a new show idea to replace The Great British Bake Off.

The Beeb lost the show to Channel 4 last week but Simon says his show idea can stay with the broadcaster forever.

He told The Sun: “I am open for business and I have got an idea for a new bread show, which involves cakes and innuendos and the BBC can have the contract for life.”

Simon said he thought production company Love Productions had done the wrong thing in turning down the BBC’s offer to keep the show, in favour of Channel 4′s more lucrative sum.

He told the paper: “Personally I think it is a mistake. I just do.

“I feel bad for the BBC, because they launched the format and it must be incredibly frustrating when you are in that position and you have got a huge hit but you can’t compete but I get the reasons why you can’t compete.”

Presenters Mel Giedroyc and Sue Perkins have already said they will not stay with the Bake Off when it leaves the BBC but the future of judges Paul Hollywood and Mary Berry still hangs in the balance.
