He became a household name playing the affable Ron Weasley in the Harry Potter films, but Rupert Grint’s new role is a long way away from his wizarding days.
The British actor, 28, was seen filming scenes for his forthcoming effort, a TV version of the hit Guy Ritchie film Snatch, and it looked to be getting rather dramatic on set.
Clad in a snappy white suit, he was seen being man-handled by a co-star and looking slightly worse for wear with a stunned expression on his face.
He was also seen jogging on location in Manchester, filming what appeared to be an action scene in character as the “frustratingly chaotic and utterly posh” Charlie Cavendish.
Rupert is best known for being Harry Potter’s sidekick, so this new role will be quite the departure for the former child star. He’s also taking up the extra responsibility of being the executive producer on the new series.
Scottish actor Dougray Scott and Gossip Girl star Ed Westwick also have roles in the series, as well as Our Girl’s Luke Pasqualino.
Snatch is based on the 2000 crime comedy film of the same name, which starred Jason Statham, Brad Pitt, Benicio Del Toro and Vinnie Jones, and it will air on Sony’s streaming network Crackle next year.
In a statement, Crackle said the 10-episode series would “carry the spirit of the setting in the original feature film, while creating a new world born from the original movie”.
Inspired by a real-life heist in London, the story is based on a group of 20-something men who stumble upon a truckload of stolen gold bullion and are thrust into the high-stakes world of organised crime. They are forced to face rogue police officers, gypsy fighters, international mobsters and local villains from London’s underworld.
