It seems like Riz Ahmed is finally getting some of the recognition he deserves. We know the Londoner from films like Ill Manors and Four Lions, as well as his days rap battling – but following a starring role in HBO’s The Night Of, Riz is receiving a lot of attention in America.

The actor appeared on The Late Show with Stephen Colbert and spoke on the different experiences of British and American Muslims, why New Yorkers keep approaching him speaking Spanish, and he also said his piece on Donald Trump.

Watch to the end to catch Riz’s four-bar freestyle.

After explaining how little he knew about both HBO and The Night Of’s writing team, Riz was asked about his experience being Asian in England.

“When I was growing up I felt like I had to qualify it and say I was “British Pakistani”, but now I kind of feel like in this day and age this is what British looks like. It looks like me, it looks like Idris Elba. And hopefully through Nasir Khan (Riz’s The Night Of character) people can see that’s what America can look like as well.” he said.

The 34-year-old has upcoming roles in Jason Bourne and Star Wars’ Rogue One, and will no doubt be spending a lot of time in the US filming. It’s this that makes Riz agree with Trump…

“He says a lot of foreigners are coming over here and taking jobs, and I have to agree. There’s a lot of British actors on TV right now over here… They’ve got to build a wall around the audition room or something to keep them away.”
