When removing algae from the notorious green Rio diving pool had no effect, organisers resorted to desperate measures.
Officials at the Maria Lenk Aquatics Centre opted to drain the pool used for water polo and synchronised swimming on Saturday night and refill it using water from the training pool. The largest pool in the centre turned the same shade of murky green as the diving pool last Tuesday.
And the results? Well, it certainly looks less radioactive.
A Rio 2016 spokesman said: “The pool has been drained and refilled. We were able to transfer water from one of two training pools that were used for water polo.”
You might be wondering – as we all are – why the diving pool hasn’t had the same treatment yet, but the synchronised swimming started on Sunday and it’s kind of important that judges can see through the water for it.
