Kanye West has brought his two loves – music and fashion – together for an intimate gig at a New York Fashion Week party, where as usual he had something to get off his chest.

The star is currently on a Saint Pablo tour and stopped off at the stylish event to perform on an untypically small stage at The Plaza Hotel, even jumping into the audience to rap with the crowd.

Kanye and his wife, Kim Kardashian, were being honoured by Harper’s Bazaar at its annual Icons event, just days after the 39-year-old rapper debuted the fourth season of his Yeezy collection for Adidas to mixed reviews.

At the end of his set, he told the fashion industry crowd: “At the beginning of this performance I tried my best to not try. No, I tried to listen to all the reports and s*** and I tried my best to stop trying. But I just couldn’t do it! I couldn’t stop! No matter what they write, I just couldn’t stop!”

He then thanked them for supporting him as he transitioned from Grammy-winning rapper-producer to fashion mogul.

He said: “I appreciate y’all going on this journey for me. I appreciate all the years y’all put up with me learning in front of you and listening to the music at the same time.”

“I appreciate the moment when Carine put her friend on the cover – no, not this moment – I’m talking about when she put Tom Ford on the cover,” he continued, referring to Carine Roitfeld, the former editor of Vogue Paris and founder and editor of CR Fashion Book. “And all you mother******s were like, ‘Oh, Carine is over!’ She’s a mother****ing icon though. There’s only one Carine.”

Kanye dropped his microphone and walked off stage, after a performance that included Famous, All Of The Lights, Black Skinhead and Touch The Sky.

The Kardashian clan was there to support Kimye, including Kris, Kourtney, Kylie and Kendall, who was with her rapper-boyfriend Tyga.

Celebrities at the bash included Mary J Blige, Heidi Klum, Christina Hendricks, Kate Upton, Nick Cannon and Pamela Anderson.
