Among the crowds of nervous 16-year-olds awaiting their GCSE results today was one famous face giving education another shot.

Reality TV favourite Joey Essex was hoping to pass a GCSE in general studies 10 years on from his first go at the qualifications, after just eight weeks of learning in ITV2′s Re-Educating Joey Essex: GCSE Special.

Studying was tough for poor Joey (Lime Pictures)

It was ultimately good news for the former The Only Way Is Essex star, who managed a D in his exam.

Earlier in the day, he tweeted about his nerves.

On my way to get my GCSE results !!! – find out what I got TONIGHT it will be on @itv2 at 9pm! Don't miss it… Trust me bro 😼 @educatejoey

It didn’t look too promising to begin with, as Joey admitted: “I still don’t really know what GCSE stands for.”

He also described what he thought general studies would involve… “How many legs does a dinosaur have?”

Joey took a trip to Stratford-upon-Avon to see the home of Shakespeare (Lime Pictures)

But the tutor he had been assigned explained to him that the areas of study would be society and ethics, politics, science and technology, and arts and culture, before arranging for him to spend some time at an Essex high school.

Some viewers were concerned that Joey’s lack of education might rub off on impressionable minds.

I’m sure Joey Essex is a nice guy, but I see so many school kids who say that as he made it with nothing, they don’t have to bother.
