Japan’s prime minister appeared as Super Mario at the Rio closing ceremony
During the Olympic closing ceremony, the city due to host the next event in four years time is under a bit of pressure to make an impression – Tokyo did not disappoint in Rio.
As the curtain came down on the 2016 Games, a section of the ceremony was dedicated to the Japanese city that will host the Games in 2020. It did not disappoint.

Japanese prime minister Shinzo Abe is the man (along with Mario) at the centre of the video, once again proving that referencing some of your country’s biggest exports is never a bad way to promote your Olympics – London did it with James Bond, Mr Bean and the Queen don’t forget.
