Green Day have marked their comeback by unveiling a new single and also revealing details of their next album.

The US rock band, fronted by Billie Joe Armstrong, have streamed their new track Bang Bang, a fast-paced and typically anarchic-sounding future hit.

Although there is no official music video yet, it has been accompanied by a pretty entertaining lyric video.

On the group’s official Facebook page, they also showed off artwork for their upcoming next album Revolution Radio, which is available to buy from October 7.

Bang Bang is the first single from the album, Green Day’s 12th studio effort, following on from their Uno!, Dos!, Tre! album trilogy in 2012.

In typical style for the outspoken band, who are known for politically-themed hits including American Idiot, the new track was inspired by the recent swathe of fatal mass shootings in the US.

Billie Joe recently spoke about the song with Rolling Stone, saying: “It’s about the culture of mass shooting that happens in America mixed with narcissistic social media.

“There’s this sort of rage happening, but it’s also now being filmed and we all have ourselves under surveillance. To me, that is so twisted. To get into the brain of someone like that was freaky.

“It freaked me out. After I wrote it, all I wanted to do was get that out of my brain because it just freaked me out.”
