Rescuers saved several giraffes, Wednesday, December 2, stranded on an island in Kenya after heavy rains caused dangerous flooding.

The Rothchild’s giraffes, an endangered breed with only about 3,000 left in Africa, were in danger of drowning.

Conservationists from the Kenya Wildlife Service collaborated with the U.S.-based Save Giraffes Now and Kenya’s Northern Rangelands Trust to mount the rescue operation.

The giraffes were moved to the Roku Conservancy, which should protect them from poachers and predators alike. (REUTERS)
