With Tyson Fury’s rematch against Wladimir Klitschko in tatters, there was bound to be a shuffling of the schedule, and the cards might just have fallen in boxing fans’ favour.

Or at least, that’s the case if you believe the word of David Haye.

The former heavyweight World Champion, who is set to fight in December, took to Twitter to somewhat prematurely announce that Britain’s big boxing hope, Joshua, will fight the experienced Wladimir Klitschko.

Great to hear Joshua-Klitschko is done. Timing is everything & the time now is perfect for AJ.🇬🇧 Reminds me of Ali 👴🏾Vs Berbick #FatherTime

— David Haye (@mrdavidhaye) October 11, 2016

It’s certainly sparked excitement in some quarters.

So the @anthonyfjoshua and @Klitschko fight has been confirmed according to @mrdavidhaye. This will be a great fight! Come on AJ #Champ #AJ

Is Haye a trustworthy source?

David Haye says Joshua-Klitschko is done. I believe him. It's really hard to hide information these days.

@mrdavidhaye He's closer to the game than we are! We should be thankful for the info! It's exciting!

— Velroy Bailey (@Vellerz) October 11, 2016

It would almost certainly be the toughest fight of AJ’s career.

@mrdavidhaye agreed it's time for him to go up against the best and beat the best!

Some thought it was a little out of order for Haye to make the announcement.

@mrdavidhaye I don't think it's right that you should be announcing it before the fighters have . Just my opinion .

While others focused purely on the tactics of the prospective fight.

Fury beat Klitschko with movement and unpredictability. Joshua might have to get it done by walking to him. Much, much harder to do.

Promoter Eddie Hearn is probably the man to ask. He says it’s not official, but the suggestion is that it’s looking likely.

@JaseTheAce28 @mrdavidhaye no but hopeful!

Whether true or not, Joshua’s preparation for whoever he fights goes on.

We’re just glad it’s definitely not us.
