Craig David is on course to return to the top of the album chart after 16 years.
The singer’s sixth record, Following My Intuition â his first in six years – is leading the way at the halfway stage of the chart week and is set to claim this week’s number one, said the Official Charts Company.
If Craig holds on to his position until Friday’s ranking is revealed, it will be his first chart-topping collection since his debut album Born To Do It debuted in the top spot in 2000.
However, the star faces competition from US indie folk band Bon Iver, who are currently in second place with their new album, 22, A Million.
The group’s third studio record is 3,500 combined sales behind Craig.
Shires’ My Universe, Radiohead’s A Moon Shaped Pool and Van Morrison’s Keep Me Singing round out the top five at the mid-week stage.
In the singles chart, it looks as if James Arthur’s return to the top spot will not be a fleeting one.
Say You Won’t Let Go, the lead single from the X Factor winner’s upcoming second studio album Back From The Edge, is holding firm at number one.
The track is currently 11,000 combined sales ahead of Arthur’s nearest rivals The Chainsmokers, with their Halsey collaboration Closer.
The Weeknd and Daft Punk’s Starboy remains at three, while Calvin Harris is at four with My Way.
Meanwhile, One Direction’s Niall Horan has jumped 95 places to number five with his debut solo single This Town.
Released last Thursday, the track debuted at number 100 just a few hours after it was released.
