Criminal barrister Robert Rinder, star of reality court show Judge Rinder, has joined on Strictly Come Dancing.

The 38-year-old was announced as the 12th contestant for the reality contest, which returns in September.

Talking to former Strictly contestant Scott Mills on Radio 1, Rinder said he was “mildly inspired” by Mills’s Under The Sea dance as a red lobster.

The final three Strictly celebrity contestants will be announced on The One Show at Monday evening, completing a line-up of 15 amateur dancers including former shadow chancellor Ed Balls, Pop Idol winner Will Young and model Daisy Lowe.

Referring to Scott’s own stint on Strictly and his Under The Sea dance, Rinder said: “I was mildly inspired by you in the red lobster thing.”

Asked about being judged by Craig Revel Horwood, he said: “If I’m rubbish and he says so, I shall have to admit it.”

An official statement read: “The only thing I knew would make my grandmother more proud than watching my TV courtroom was to see me dressed up in a white tie doing the Foxtrot.

“So although I suspect the latter will be far more difficult, I am doing Strictly Come Dancing for her. No doubt the judges will be as fair, kind and thoughtful as me (especially the charming Craig Revel Horwood). I shall await their verdicts.”
