A couple who sing Sex On Fire made it through to the next round of The X Factor.

The judges looked surprised when Tom, 24, and Laura, 29, from Liverpool, announced that they were to sing the Kings Of Leon track during their audition.

But Sharon Osbourne ended up giving the pair a standing ovation, saying that the rendition was a “pleasant surprise” and gave her “goosebumps”.

Fellow judge Nicole Scherzinger said that the couple, who have been together for two-and-a-half years, have “good chemistry”.

After Tom refused Simon Cowell’s attempt to split them up and go through on his own to the next round, the couple got a yes from all four judges and go through to boot camp.

Another hopeful, Matt Terry, a 23-year-old former waiter from Bromley, told the judges that he was devastated after his girlfriend split up with him just two days before his birthday.

When Terry, who looks like One Direction singer Louis Tomlinson, told how the heartache “pulled me back a little bit” Nicole replied: “Yeah, I know what that’s like.”

But the two ended up flirting and the 23-year-old suggested that they go on a double date as his granny fancies Simon.

Simon later met her and joked that she is a “future girlfriend”, while Terry wowed the judges after singing Stand By Me.

Sada Vidoo (Thames/Syco Entertainment)

Sada Vidoo, a woman who calls herself a “living doll” also got through, after Cowell told her “you are not a doll” but praised her for being “fantastically nuts”.
