Nicklas Bendtner has cut a frustrated figure during his career. The 28-year-old has drifted from Sunderland to Juventus on loan since leaving Arsenal, before a difficult spell at Wolfsburg.

And it looks as though the former Gunner could be heading back to England with Nottingham Forest, if rumours are to be believed.

Bendtner is currently at the CG. Awaiting news of what deal – if any – has been agreed. But feels close. Yards away, in fact 😉 #nffc

As is often the case, the news was partly met with derision.

Rumours abound that Nicklas Bendtner is close to signing for Nottingham Forest… pic.twitter.com/1Deuz9gYzi

Although Forest fans were more than happy to hear that the Danish striker was potentially on his way.

Bendtner for me is a bloody good signing. #nffc

But the twist came when the sharper among us realised that Arsenal play Nottingham Forest in their opening League Cup fixture in two weeks.

Can't wait for Nicklas Bendtner to knock us out the EFL Cup. #afc

It would be just Arsenal fans’ luck, wouldn’t it?

Goal for #nffc – Forest 1 Arsenal 0 (Bendtner 90+2)

This is unlikely. But maybe…

Bendtner hat-trick v Arsenal in the cup. Wenger buys him for £13m in January….. Sorted #nffc

All of a sudden, Nottingham Forest v Arsenal just got interesting.
