Chris Eubank Jr was all set to fight Kazakhstan’s Gennady Golovkin, until the deal fell through and Golovkin took a fight against welterweight Kel Brook instead.
Now, talking to the Express about why that deal fell through and what the next step is for Eubank Jr, Eubank Snr said: âWe think he’s running scared. This is Gennedy Golovkin.
âWe think he’s running scared because I don’t know how he can choose a fighter who is two weights beneath himself.
âIt’s something out of a comic book, it really is. They can’t be serious.”
But that wasn’t all the former middleweight and super-middleweight world champion had to say: âIt is what it is. It’s been agreed. The people will accept what’s given to them.
âBut within the boxing fraternity it isn’t seen as a match that is fair. I’ve heard it said from boxing aficionados that it’s tantamount to cradle snatching.
âHeâs fighting someone who is like a toddler – that’s how it’s seen in the boxing world.â
Eubank said the fight between his son and “pound-for-pound best” Golovkin fell through because of a “misunderstanding”, but hopes that after a rematch with Billy Joe Saunders a Eubank Jr and Golovkin title fight will happen.
GGG fights IBF welterweight champion Brook on September 10.
