It’s been the most turbulent 24 hours for a Manchester City player since Joe Hart was sent to Torino and found out his name was Charles.

A player once revered at Manchester City for his ability to slalom through midfield and score goals by the bucket, Yaya Toure has fallen out of favour since Pep Guardiola’s arrival.

But just yesterday, it seemed the Ivorian was all set to start winning the former Barcelona boss over, with potential involvement in the League Cup on the horizon.

Great to be back training!!! 👍🏾👍🏾👍🏾

And then as Tuesday rolled around, Yaya brought out some big news.

OFFICIAL: Yaya Touré has retired from international football.
He scored 19 goals in 102 games for Ivory Coast. 👏👏👏 pic.twitter.com/GYqNWU4nP9

Toure has been an ever-present figure for the Ivory Coast, captaining the side to the Africa Cup of Nations in 2015.

But the reaction was scathing, given the state of the central midfielder’s club career.

A strange time for Yaya Toure to retire from international football. Not exactly overworked at the moment

Yaya Toure announces his retirement from international football, Pep Guardiola having announced his retirement from club football in August.

Still, if a few jokes were made at Yaya’s expense, at worst, that’s a mixed day.

But then this happened.

It seems Toure’s agent has landed him in hot water with his boss. Dimitri Seluk criticised Guardiola for not playing his client, and as such it looks as though he may have cut Yaya’s career at Manchester City even shorter.

Should Seluk apologise? He doesn’t think so.

Yaya Toure's Agent: "I will apologise to Guardiola when he apologises for what he did to Manuel Pellegrini"

Fans were very much split on the issue, with some defending Guardiola.

#MCFC embarrassingly indulged Yaya Toure + agent over a birthday cake. Guardiola absolutely right to stand firm. No player bigger than club.

Others suggested it all seemed like a bit of a pointless argument.

Yaya Toure was never in Pep's plan.So why tell Dimitri Seluk to apologise before Yaya can return to the team

While this journalist seemed to think the solution lay somewhere in the Scottish Premiership.

Yaya Toure should come join Celtic he will have peace like Kolo Toure

Although with Pep’s City taking on Celtic in the Champions League this season, even then you wouldn’t be able to separate them.
