Olympic gymnast Louis Smith has come under fire after a video appears to show him mocking Islam.

Footage leaked online appears to show Smith and fellow gymnast Luke Carson laughing while pretending to pray and shouting “Allahu Akbar” while at a friend’s wedding.

British Gymnastics have said they will investigate the incident, and both gymnasts could face disciplinary action. 26-year-old Carson announced his retirement due to injury last year.

The governing body said: “British Gymnastics does not condone the mocking of any faith or religion and is appalled by such behaviours.

“Gymnastics is an inclusive sport and we are proud of members who portray the inclusive values of British Gymnastics.

After the video came to light, Smith posted this message on his Twitter apologising for the incident.
