Johnny and Amber resolved their acrimonious divorce last month, just a day before a high-profile court hearing was due to take place in Los Angeles. A temporary restraining order issued against Johnny following allegations of physical abuse was withdrawn.

He vehemently denied claims he abused Amber after she alleged he had a “history of drug and alcohol abuse” and been “verbally and physically abusive” for the entirety of their four-year-relationship, which began after they met on the set of 2011 film The Rum Diary.

A joint statement released by the former couple confirming their divorce agreement said there was “never any intent of physical or emotional harm”, with the two saying: “Our relationship was intensely passionate and at times volatile, but always bound by love.”

2. Jennifer Garner and Ben Affleck

Jennifer and Ben announced their split after 10 years in the summer of 2015. The couple released a statement saying they would “go forward with love and friendship for one another” and were committed to co-parenting their three young children.

“After much thought and careful consideration, we have made the difficult decision to divorce,” they said.

3. Gwen Stefani and Gavin Rossdale

Gwen was left heartbroken after the sudden break-up with the father of her three sons after 13 years of marriage. Their divorce was finalised in April 2016.

The couple said in a statement: “While the two of us have come to the mutual decision that we will no longer be partners in marriage, we remain partners in parenthood and are committed to jointly raising our three sons in a happy and healthy environment.”

The Voice US judge told Carson Daly’s 97.1 AMP radio show that although her life “blew up in my face”, she has managed to move on to a place she feels “inspired”.

4. Drew Barrymore and Will Kopelman

Drew and Will’s marriage collapsed earlier this year, with the two announcing their separation in April after three years of marriage.

The couple, who are parents to daughters Olive, three, and Frankie, two, acknowledged that divorce made them feel likes failures.

“Sadly our family is separating legally, although we do not feel this takes away from us being a family,” they said. “Divorce might make one feel like a failure, but eventually you start to find grace in the idea that life goes on.”

5. Kate Beckinsale and Len Wiseman

6. Mary J Blige and Martin “Kendu” Isaacs

Mary announced in July that she was ending her marriage of almost 13 years to her manager Kendu.

Los Angeles court records show the Family Affair singer cited irreconcilable differences and asked for him to be denied spousal support. She and Kendu were married in December 2003 and have no children together.
