Arsenal are on a hot run of form as it stands, with 11 wins and two draws from their last 13 games. In Alan Partridge terms, they’re an apple turnover: hotter than the sun.

The result is that the Gunners sit second in the Premier League, top of their Champions League group, and can look forward to an EFL Cup quarter final.

But that form comes under serious pressure as we enter November, and the reason for that is twofold. First, the north London side face difficult fixtures against Tottenham and Manchester United in the Premier League, along with Paris Saint-Germain in the Champions League. But there remains a second reason.

The Gunners, under Arsene Wenger, have earned a pitiful average of just 1.59 league points per game during the month of November. If we extrapolate that to a 38 game season, that’s 60 points, which for the 2014/15 and 2015/16 season was enough for 7th and 8th place respectively in the Premier League.

Wenger’s most impressive month is March, at 2.18 points per game – a huge difference of 0.59 points per game compared with the 11th month of the year.

Indeed, last season the north London side failed to win any of their league games in November, drawing against Spurs 1-1, losing to West Brom 2-1 away, before earning just a point at Norwich.

By the time the advent calendars roll around, fans will certainly have a better idea of whether or not the Gunners have what it takes to go the distance in the Premier League.

Should they win the league, it will be their first since the 2003/04 season, wherein Arsenal managed an average of 2.5 points a game in November, before going on to win the title undefeated.
