Anastacia has been cleared by a doctor to perform in Strictly Come Dancing this weekend, despite having torn her mastectomy scar.

The 48-year-old, who partners Brendan Cole in the BBC dancing competition, was forced to change last weekend’s salsa routine at the last minute owing to an injury she suffered during training.

The singer tore the scar tissue from a double mastectomy she had in 2013 after being diagnosed with breast cancer for the second time.

Anastacia narrowly avoided being sent home from the competition after finding herself in the bottom two couples following the first public vote of the series. She was unable to take part in the dance-off because of the injury, sparking fears she would have to sit out this weekend’s show.

A BBC spokesman said: “Yesterday, Anastacia visited the clinic of a specialist in breast reconstruction surgery. The doctor again confirmed that there was a tear in the scar tissue, which, although painful, is not permanent.

“She was given the all clear to dance this weekend with the caveat that the routine is carefully choreographed and she has been given the appropriate medication. Brendan was with her for her appointments and they have been filmed for this weekend’s episode.

“The specialist will be monitoring her condition regularly and she will revisit them on Monday.”

The American is donating her Strictly fee to charity to further breast cancer research. The BBC spokesman added: “She is doing this to raise money for breast cancer so, unless a doctor tells her she can’t carry on, quitting would never be an option. Anastacia and Brendan are now in rehearsal.”

DJ Melvin Odoom and professional partner Janette Manrara were the first couple to leave the competition, having found themselves in the bottom two alongside Anastacia and Brendan but with fewer public votes.
