Adele’s record-breaking hit Hello has won track of the year at the Association of Independent Music (AIM) Awards.

She released the single last year while she was still signed with XL Recordings, the independent record label that helped launch her career with her first album, 19.

She has since reportedly signed a £90 million contract with major label Sony.

Hello beat off competition from Radiohead’s Burn The Witch, Skepta’s Man, and Major Lazer ft Nyla & Fuse ODG’s song Light It Up.

The sixth edition of the AIM awards also saw gongs go to artists including Little Simz, Roisin Murphy and Stormzy.

Grime star Stormzy won the innovator award after shooting to fame over the past two years, while Roisin was recognised for a long career with the outstanding contribution to music award.

Little Simz picked up the award for independent album of the year, for her debut A Curious Tale Of Trials + Persons.

Blur frontman Damon Albarn put in an appearance to present the pioneer award to his friend and collaborator, music mogul Richard Russell.

Rising star Christine And The Queens, the French singer and songwriter who played Glastonbury in June, was recognised with the independent breakthrough of the year award.
